Burning dandelions

Today I walk by a neighbour doing something odd to plants in his lawn..I said hello..and he smiled and looked where I was looking and said "it's better for the environment" . I was thinking how much it stunk, how much it hurt those poor dandelions and why people are so intent on having this lawn that looks like velvet... So unreal...so neutered. Sigh..I don't know. Yeah better for the environment I suppose.

  1. A master gardener I know calls lawns the "evil monoculture"...most rabid lawn lovers dump chemicals all year long on their "natural" lawns to keep them perfect. Toss some wildflower seeds out instead and grow a meadow! I agree with you Ravy, the sight of the burning plants must have been painful. I'd be tempted to light match to the hair on his arm & see how he likes it! Only sorta kidding.

  2. thanks for the comments. Lisa? he was using some sort of burning tool to kill dandelions.
Oriana...yes indeed. Fire...plants fear fire for it kills all enzymes..all life. Even pulling them out or cutting them doesn't bother them as much as fire.

  3. I never fully understood the folks who are obsessed with the perfect lawn. Similar to the ones who wash and polish a car for six hours...I agree let it be natural. All the best -LL
